NAFAM Convention 2007 was officiated and closed by YABhg Tun Abdullah bin Haji Ahmad Badawi (the then Prime Minister of Malaysia) and it was a resounding success. Arising from it, the Government Asset Management Committee (Jawatankuasa Pengurusan Aset Kerajaan - JPAK) was formed to take the subsequent actions. Led by the Chief Secretary to the Government of Malaysia, YBhg Tan Sri Mohd Sidek bin Haji Hassan, the Committee has successfully produced the Government Asset Management Policy and the Government Comprehensive Asset Management Manual, which was launched by YABhg Tun Abdullah bin Haji Ahmad Badawi on 31 March 2009.

This year, the Prime Minister of Malaysia, YAB Dato’ Sri Mohd Najib bin Tun Haji Abdul Razak has agreed and once again appointed the Public Works Department Malaysia and AMPM to jointly organise NAFAM Convention 2009 to be held on 26 & 27 October 2009 in PWTC. Due to his tight schedule, YAB Dato’ Sri Mohd Najib has assigned the Deputy Prime Minister of Malaysia, YAB Tan Sri Muhyiddin Mohd Yassin to officiate and deliver the Keynote Address for the Convention on Monday, 26 October 2009. For the closing ceremony, the Secretary General of the Ministry of Works, YBhg Dato’ Thomas George, represented the Minister of Works, Malaysia, YB Dato' Shaziman Abu Mansor to close and deliver the Closing Keynote Address on Tuesday, 27 October 2009.

Themed “Enhancing Values through Total Asset Management in the 10th Malaysia Plan”, NAFAM Convention 2009 set the following objectives:

  • To explore innovative ideas for an effective engagement of Total Asset Management in the 10th Malaysia Plan.
  • To create a platform for sharing of experience in achieving high value return on asset utilisation.
  • To formulate sustainable integration of asset planning, life-cycle costing, monetisation, performance monitoring, good governance and best-practices in managing the Malaysian built-environment.

This high-level gathering and meeting of minds of key players in the Government and in the industry was able to stimulate creative and intelligent discussions by tapping the experience and expertise of the local and international subject matter experts and participants alike, and proved again to be a resounding success.
